Illuminate the Lock presents Returning the River
September 20, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
The 49-foot tall chamber of Upper Saint Anthony Falls Lock and Dam will come alive with poetry, projection and music during the world premiere of Returning the River created by Mike Hoyt, Dameun Strange and Molly Van Avery. Returning the River tells the story of a daughter born into a time of walls whose life is intrinsically linked to the life of a paddlefish. Participants will take in visual projections on the water by Mike Hoyt, a soundscape composed by Dameun Strange, and a story written and narrated by Molly Van Avery from a boat in the Lock chamber and sung by Ritika Ganguly from above. Attendees are invited to listen and sing along, and their wishes for the river will be projected as part of the performance. The event takes place nightly between 8:00-10:00 p.m., doors open at 8 pm, with one performance of Returning the River taking place between 8:30 p.m. – 9:15 p.m. Attendees are welcome to enjoy an open house with projections, music and interactive elements at the Lock following the performance until 10:00 p.m. The performance is free and open to the public. Early arrival is suggested, as space and viewing areas for the 8:30 performance are limited.
