Gifts of the Cottonwood Tree

From traditional stories to food and medicine to the way they doctor the earth — Cottonwoods are some of the most generous relatives with a sacred role in Dakota ceremonial life.

Join us Wednesday, July 7th, 6:00-7:30 pm to learn more about the gifts of the Cottonwood trees.

Led by LPCP staff members, Maggie Lorenz (Dakota+Ojibwe) will start off the webinar by sharing the story of the Star in the Cottonwoods; Mishaila Bowman (Dakota) will share their many medicinal and edible gifts, featured elder Jim Red Eagle (Nakota/Dakota) will talk about the cultural importance of cottonwoods to the Očeti Šakowiŋ, and finally, Sam Wegner (LPCP Environmental Stewardship Programs Manager) and Keeli Siyaka (Dakota) will delve into the phytoremediator properties of cottonwoods and how they doctor the Earth.

This webinar will take place on Zoom. There is a 100 participant limit, register here.
