Gateway Trip- Fort Snelling State Park Overnight

August 24, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - August 25, 2018 @ 10:00 am

Wilderness Inquiry provides Gateway trips for adults and youth with developmental disabilities at a variety of locations. These 3-7 day trips are a great introduction to outdoor recreation and wilderness camping, focusing on developing skills such as setting up a tent, paddling a canoe or kayak, camp crafts, outdoor cooking, leadership and group social skills. Most importantly, participants experience the beauty of the great outdoors with a group of friends.

Your adventure is based at Picnic Island in Fort Snelling State Park. Here you  will set up camp, hike around Picnic Island, and learn about the amazing history of Fort Snelling – it is truly the birthplace of modern Minnesota. At Picnic Island, you’ll enjoy bird songs, a view of the river, good food, and the crackling of a campfire as you relax. This is a fantastic way to explore the environment right out your back door.
